From Poland with love: Answers to your questions

answers
Dear friends, the developers of the polish studio sent us the answers to your questions, which you could choose earlier. So we show them to you without spending any time and hope that you will find something new.

Unfortunately, we couldn't take all the questions you wanted to ask, but we tried to summarize the most important aspects, so we can satisfy everybody. Enjoy!

-------------------------------------------------------------

1. Will the Geralt’s movements be different (visually) when fighting vs. monsters and vs. humans? Will there be certain animation for every type of monster?

We significantly increase the number of moves Geralt has in combat. It’s now 96 always fitting the situation animations, while The witcher 2 had 20 of those. There will be new offensive and defensive moves, such as the pirouette and the whole combat will appear more to be a duel, a sword dance between two enemies.

2. It was said earlier, that there will be no Quick Time Events in Witcher 3. It seems reasonable because the system already bores many players. But, given that, what alternative would you offer instead?

Do we have to give an alternative? We want The witcher 3 to be pure RPG mechanics. You develop your character, his inventory and skills and this hast to be taken into account in a fight with a larger enemy. A less experienced witcher has to have less chance of beating an enemy than one, who gained more XP. QTEs made both versions of Geralt equal and we want to go away from that. The game will return to its RPG roots

3. What will the system of potions look like? More like in the first game of series (prolonged potion action, some intriguing special potions like Black Blood or Bindweed) or like in the second part, more of ‘arcade’ type +5, -10 etc.? Do you plan to restore alcohol as a base for potions?

There are some minor tweeks in the potions systems. As in the Witcher 2 you will still have to drink them before combat, but you will be able to activate them anytime afterwards as witchers can control their metabolism.

4. Do you intend to add some DLCs later, or the final is, so to say, final, and there’ll be no extension whatsoever?

Let the finale occur, then we will talk about the future.

5. Will the new soundtrack follow music style from the first game and will Adam Skorupa return as a composer?

It’s too early to confirm that.

6. Since this game is for Next-Gen consoles, what do you plan to do with saved games’ importing? Would you make something close to what was made in Mass Effect and Dragon Age, kind of ‘interactive comics’ just before the game start, where players could choose their key decisions and to ‘form’ the setting of the following part of the game. RPG is literally all about role-playing, so there should be some way to retain the nature of the character.

We are still trying out multiple options, it’s too early. If there will be technical possibilities savegame import will be included in the game.

7. Will Geralt be able to dismount during combat (for example, when attacked from an ambush) and will the character be as effective in combat when mounted as in “normal” combat?

Geralt was trained for non-mounted combat. He will be able to deliver some blows from horseback, but his full potential comes when he’s on foot.

8. Will there be other witchers and other characters from Witcher series of books in the game?

Of course, there will be other characters from the book. Sapkowski created a real huge lore and we couldn’t kill them all .

9. Will it be possible for Geralt to shave his face, as we read in the book that he didn’t like even a short growth? Also, will there be a possibility to change his haircut like it was in the second game of the series?

We know Geralt’s haircut is important to some players. That’s why customization will be applicable. As for the beard – it is also the players’ choice. Geralt has changed and you are seeing his version of events.

10. Will Geralt be able to swim, including swimming underwater?

Swimming will be tiresome but possible – your stamina level will decrease. As for diving – try doing that in a suit of armor.

11. Will the NPCs belong to their locations or be able to travel between the villages and towns?

The choices Geralt makes will influence many people, from particular NPCs to whole communities. We want to create a truly living world and your decisions will have effect on many characters.

12. Will it be possible to continue playing after completing the game (so called ‘free play’)?

We don’t comment on this now.

13. Will it be possible to drink in tavern for a dare, like it was in the first game?

Drinking is back, but the mechanic will be different this time.

14. When could we expect any news on REDkit editor?

Soon. The closed beta is to an end so check our site for more news.

15. On the way from Novigrad to Skellige Islands there are many well-known places like Gors Velen, Oxenfurt, Brokilon forest, and not far from the islands Jaruga and Cintra. The question is, will Geralt see with his own eyes let any of the above?

The world in The Witcher 3 is 35 times bigger than that in the second game. So there will be a lot of exploration. Also it’s not hard to create a large game world, but we want to make it interesting for every gamer – so don’t worry there will be a lot of things to see. Our goal is to create an interesting place at least on your horizon, so you have always a place to wander to.

16. Will the Witcher be able to ignore the main story like in The Elder Scrolls series or the events happening in the world would urge him to return and keep to the storyline?

It’s your game, your playthrough. You can complete quests in any order you want, but remember that neglecting a storyline will have its consequences.

17. Will the in-game Novigrad correspond to the book description (i.e., stone buildings, paved streets, a haven, 8 banks, 12 pawn shops, a palace, 36 taverns etc.)? Will we actually see it all in the game?

You forgot about 12 brothels. Recreating real life in 100% in a game is not always fun for the player to explore. Which player needs 36 taverns? As mentioned before – our goal is to have a living and intriguing world – and not just a huge one. Novigrad will satisfy you for sure and will be one of the largest cities of this kind in an RPG.

18. Will the refusal to complete sub-quests which are said not to be obligatory somehow affect the number of endings?

The number of possible endings is the same and when we counted them, the effects of sidequests or not completing them is included – so there are 3 long epilogue sequences and 36 different game states when the game ends. But also the roadmap to these solutions differs. Your sidequests will affect the final outcome of the game and also have consequences in the middle.

19. Will Geralt visit the home of all witchers, the Kaer Morhen?

No spoilers.

20. Will we meet Geralt’s foster-daughter, Ciri?

No spoilers.

21. Will Geralt have some permanent companions during the storyline evolvement, like it was in the later books of the cycle?

Right now we can only confirm Roach, his horse (do not confuse with Vernon Roche).

22. When could we expect first gameplay videos?

You can expect them anytime, but when we will publish them is another thing. Be patient and follow our webpage.

23. Do you have any plans for beta-testing period before the release?

There is always a beta test of a game. If you are talking about an open beta – no, there are no such plans.
